everything is running fine inside the case there is just a problem with the connection between the video card and the monitor
just checked
the problem is not with the cable or the monitor
Are all power supply connections to the motherboard plugged in?
Specs, please - motherboard model, video card model, power supply model at the very least.

motherbord is an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe NF4SLI 939
video card is a VGA XFX|GF6800XT 256M PVT42EUDE3 RT
power supply is a OKIA-550W ATX (came pre-installed in the case)
all purchased from newegg
Im having the same intitial problem as pam123
when it started up there was no picture(although it showed up once for just a second and then it stopped working) and i am also not getting any beeps on startup and the power button(although hooked up properly will only turn the computer on and not off
i did what ASUS said and tried to force an error to get it to beep buy starting it up without the RAM in or the Processor but still got nothing, no beeps at all (and i dont know if it matters or not but it is hooked up the the tower speaker)
im guessing it is a bad motherboard and since an ASUS board is the main thing that mine and pam123's computers have in common i'm guessing that is the problem

Pam provided a link to a troubleshooting guide. Did you follow the procedure in that link? Remove the board from the case and boot with minimal parts to see if there's a short.
Is that Okia power supply a 24 pin ATX 2.0 unit with dual +12v rails? VERY few power supplies preinstalled in cases these days are quality units, and that one is no exception. It certainly is not SLI-certified.

the main cable is only 20 pin is that my problem?
not enough power is getting to the motherboard? because it also as a square 4 pin plug that also goes into the motherboard
and yes i did do everything in the troubleshooting guide

That board requires an ATX 2.0 supply.
That's a 24 pin main plug and another 4 pin plug . It needs 2 12 volt lines.
You've diagnosed your problem.

so basically that is why i'm not getting a picture on the screen?

From your info, yes.
You aren't going to get a proper power supply for $55, much less the whole case too. You bought a SLI motherboard, you need to buy a SLI-certified power supply to go along with it.
