I have come across an older card. It has Promise Technology chips on it and it says "Ultra33". It has what i think are two IDE pin slots. Is this just an expansion card/controller for a bunch of IDE drives? Is it a raid controller? PT's website lists the Ultra33 but has no documentation for it. I have an older Optiplex that can use some more storage and I wonder if this would speed things up or is it a wash? I guess I could get a picture....

Its just an add-in card to give a pc ultra 33 ide speed. I got an Ultra 100 here that's gotta be 7 or 8 years old so you can guess how old that one is.
Yes, you can use it in your Optiplex - but I'm not sure how large a drive its BIOS can handle. Your Optiplex may already have ATA33 controllers - or even faster, depending on age and model.

7 or 8 years is probably right now that i think of it...yikes- I don't even know if it will even fit in the case....this Opti is a small form-factor....
Thanks for the info- any drivers out there or will XP be OK with it (if I decide to experiment-haha)?

You can currently have up to four hard drives/cd drives in you pc if you had the space. Do you need to add more than four? If so, the card would be handy.
A SFF case is not one you want to start sticking more hard drives into. It probably has a wimpy 90 watt power supply.
