I've run Norton Anti-Virus for years, but recently had some computer necessities done at the shop, and they installed AVG on my computer, as they told me it is less invassive than Norton.

Is the AVG free version enough virus protection though? I am still subscribed to Norton (2 year period) but believe if AVG is enough protection, that I won't bother with Norton '06.

Are there "additions" that I should add to AVG to make it a better protection system? I DO see AVG adding to it's database at times, so I assume it is updating, but thought I'd ask you folks about this product rather than making those assumptions...for my own computer safety!

I do realize that Norton can be problematic, and fixing those problems can be difficult, but it did seem to work fine in the past (odd problems of course).

I don't know alot about AVG, and when trying to find information on it through Google, I seem to go to "ads" to buy the product, so I'm wondering if the free version truly is enough protection?

Any help from those that have used AVG for a long period would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is good enough. You can keep Norton, though, as long as you don't have AVG and Norton both using active protection at the same time. I had a subscription to Norton, I installed AVG and had both, and then when my subscription ended I removed Norton and just used AVG. No problems at all.

There is no real functional difference between AVG Free and AVG Pro's protection. It's the same engine and definitions. Pro simply gives you more options for configuring custom scans and stuff like that - and entitles you to tech support.
