I just built a computer for the first time, and I have the power switch and everything plugged in, even the power supply is all plugged in but the thing won't even start. The fan, hard drive, nothing will start. Why is that?

If it helps it's an ATX model.

Follow the steps in this thread (http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=12753). If that doesn't work, post back here with your complete system specs.

I did what it said in that thread, and it'll turn on and off, every once in awhile. It even went on for a couple minutes, but thenI figured out that I had to put it back into the case so I shut it off, and now it just periodically turns on and off. So, I am super confused as what to do.

What are your system specs? What do you mean it will "turn on and off"? Does that mean it will go on for a few seconds then shut off?

I have no idea what my systemm specs are, and yes just for a few seconds, and then shut off.

It could be a heat problem then; are you sure the heatsink is attached to the processor properly?

If this is a recently-built computer, what parts did you use? Motherboard, processor, memory, etc. That's what we mean by system specs. List everything, including the powersupply.

What are the brands and models of all of those pieces of hardware? Did you put this together yourself?

I honestly can't tell you. I just used what I had in my other computer. all I did was buy a case, and I was just going to put all the stuff in my old computer, into the new case.

What brand and model was the old computer? Are you using the same power supply or one that came with the new case?
