First build and need help!!

i have evertying in the computer connected. Everything is attached to a power supply. I am pretty certain that i have connected evertying right. When i turn on the computer there is no beeping code and nothing shows up on my screen. I read that a beeping occurs when you turn it on.
I have been looking around on this forum and i think it might be a deffective video card but i dont really know. I am trying to find a friend that uses an nvidia card that i can test on my system but they all have ati cards.
If you want the system specs just say so and i will post them up.
The computer itself turns on, the fans, and led lights, but nothing appears on the monitor.
Any help would be helpful.

What are the full specs of your system?

Why do you have to use an nVidia card?

I have a AMD 3800+ x2 dual core processor, a wester digital caviar 250gb SATA, corsair xms 2 x 1 gb 184 pin ddr sdram, a ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard, an aspire atx 680 watt power supply, a samsung cd drive, a bfg tech geforce 7800 gtx video card, and a 20 inch ben q widescreen monitor.

im not sure but i thought since the motherboard was made for sli and not crossfire i had to use a nvdia card instead of a ati card if im mistaken please tell me so.

ill go try out what that hal guy said in that thread you posted up and then ill post up whatever happened.

Yes, you are mistaken. You don't NEED to use an nVidia card on that system; you simply can't use the SLI features if you use an ATi card.

oh ok thanks i didnt know that. Well i tried what was on that thread you posted and took it out of the case and shorted the power connectors. The computer turned on but nothing appeared on my monitor. I am not sure what else to do now.

Make sure the 24 and 4 pin power plugs for the mother board are fully seated and that the video card power connector is in good. Also, try clearing the BIOS, the Asus manual should tell you the proper way of doing it.

That Aspire power supply could be the problem. Their PSU's are junk. Some of the unethical dealers like tigerdirect list it as SLI ready. It is not. If you have another PSU from a reputable maker that is strong enough for your system, try swapping it in and see if it works.
