Dual channel question

I just have a quick question...

My mobo has dual channel capabilities, but I currently have a one gig stick in it.
Is it possible to combine a 2 x 512 kit with the 1 gig stick? Would there be any performance increase?

You are much better off getting another 1gb stick as close to the original as you can and seeing if they will dual channel.
