Hello everyone.

My room mate has a dell demension 8400 stock. He is upgrading the vid card and now wants to upgrade the ram while he is at it. His machine came stock with 1 gig of dell? ram.

He likes this kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145527

Can he plug that kit in with the gig stick he already has and make 3 gig or will he need to get rid of that dell ram and just replace it with corsair for a total of 2 gig?

sorry im a noob :D

According to Corsair's configurator, you have to use proprietary RAM such as:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145130&ATT=20-145-130&CMP=OTC-pricegrabbermerch

Also, buy here (http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Dell%2BDimension+%2F+Dimension+XPS&mfr=Dell&tabid=AM&model=Dimension+8400+Series&submit=Go) and you are garuanteed compatibility.

Sorry, doesn't look that Dell takes generic RAM.

Also, I take it the current set-up is 2 512MB sticks? 3 gigs is a waste, so you could just get 2 more 512MB sticks from Crucial .

Blueboy's right - get some Crucial. I use Ballistix - it rocks!
Your friend may want to focus on POWER SUPPLY issues more than RAM if he's going to upgrade the Vid card.
