Hi all,
My computer is up and running. All went well, thanks to all of you who helped me. BIG THANKS. Any tips for why I can't get my outlook express to work? I've checked all the settings on my old pc and duplicated them on the new. I have no problem getting to any website. What am I missing in moving my account?

Well, I don't know what I did. But I went through everything again, and now it is working! Yeah!
Is it okay to load older programs, like Word 97, onto Windows XP?

My old speakers are Boston Acoustics. There are two speakers and a sub-woofer. This new Asus board has configuration for 2-channel or 4 channel. I cannot get these speakers to work. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have an Asus A8N5X. My speakers have two satellite and one subwoofer. The two satellite connect together and then to the sub, and from the sub to the pc. My motherboard has many speaker ports, for home theater surround sound, I guess. I have plugged my speaker into every one and nothing. I have the Realtek audio control panel on the screen. When I click on show configuration, it either tell me I am missing front speaker, or sub speaker. It has options for headphone, 2, 4, 6, or 8 channel speaker system.

Since the Asus site is working for me now (but for how much longer?) I've got your manual downloaded.
For Headset/ 2 channel ( you've got the second) you need the lime port in the line out.
If you're hooked up there then it's a matter of seeing to it that you've got desktop stereo speakers selected as Sound in Control Panel and that you've got 2 speaker sound set up for on-board in the Realtek studio.
It sounds like you're getting the confiugration for 4 or more channels instead of the one you have.

I have it as 2 channel. I have the speaker in the lime port. It is set to desktop stereo with 2 speaker in Realtek. I feel like I am missing something obvious.

Also, when I run the EZ connection, I get the following message: "The audio devices may not be connected properly. Please refer to the correct connection and check below connectors: Front, center/subwoofer." It show a red x by green port and center/sub port. But I have double checked and I am in the green port.

Try using an analog cable from the optical drive you use for playback to the motheboard.
As I recall it has an on board connection for that.

Hey all,
I asked my father to bring over his speakers from his pc. And guess what they work fine! I read on the Boston Accoustics website that quite a few ppl have had problems with this model of speaker not working with Windows XP. So....I'm getting new speakers. Anyone have a brand suggestion?

I had a similar situation when I tried to use my BA-735 Digital 2.1 speakers from an old Gateway system on a new mobo. The secret turned out to be using the Analog cable from the sub to the on board sound connection. The digital connection/cable will not work. Try using the analog cable (mine has a purple connector for the sub) on the analog connection.

Unfortunately, I don't have a analog cable. But I did try and stick the green plug from the speakers into the S/PDIF port, and although it doesn't really fit, if I hold it there, I can get my speakers to work. They work loud and kinda cracky, but they work! So maybe I just need to get a S/PDIF cable as opposed to new speakers. What do ya think?

No, don't do that. You should be able to pick up an analog cable at Radio Shack for not much money.
