My computer has just said SVC.EXE has crashed. As I've found out this is an adware trojan that's no bad thing. But how do I remove the darn thing?
I've got McAfee firewall and anti virus and Microsoft's Defender, which seems like a poorer version of its AntiSpyware beta. Shouldn't these have noticed the svc.exe?
Unless of course my installation the other day of BT broadband introduced it, but I doubt it, I hope.
Any thoughts?

Boot into safe mode and perform a search on your drive(s) for the svc.exe file and delete it.
Go to Start >> Run >> type in regedit. Go to File >> Export and save your registry backup where you can find it. Look under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
If there are any keys here, look for references to the svc.exe file and delete them. Then goto Edit >> Find and check "Values". Perform a search on the registry for the term svc.exe and delete all keys that contain a reference to this file. If your machine does not run correctly after deleting the keys, simply boot into safe mode again, find your registry backup file and double click to merge it back into your current registry.
As for your programs, your firewall will not detect adware or trojans unless they are attempting to access the internet on a blocked port. I'm not a fan of McAfee products, so I will refrain from commenting on their products. Alot of people like them. As for spyware detection I recommend Spybot and Adaware. I have never used any M$ antispyware programs, so I cannot comment on them either.
Good Luck.
