I am using Windows XP Pro, and have the Google Toolbar which is suppose to catch pop ups, but recently the only "Pop Up" getting through is when I open PCMech!
I'm unsure if this is noticeable by others, or if this is a specific issue with me only? I usually just hit the "x" in the corner to close it, but is there a way to set up PCMech so this doesn't show up?
Thanks in advance.

Just one and just us?
This sounds suspicious though, obviously, I don't get ads at this site.
Also, there aren't any other reports of this.
So either we've got a plant ( It can happen.) or you've got spyware.
I'll start at this end and you start at yours.

My Firefox comes with a pop-up blocker pre-installed. PCMech's adverts always come through :)
It happens every once in awhile...

Does anyone know where one can get the free version of Adaware? Upon looking, the few sites I checked out wait until you download...THEN tell you (after the scan) that you need the registered version to actually get rid of adware!
I previously had it on my hard drive prior to my new motherboard being installed (and hard drive cleared) but can't seem to find the free version. I thought perhaps some of you folks may have the link?
Thanks in advance.

1. You want "Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06". Download.com has it.
2. If you want to get rid of the popup ads at PC Mech, consider becoming a supporter.

I get the pop up too. It doesn't bother me. Just don't worry about it.

I don't have any popups - I have SpwareBlaster (also available on download.com) and SpyBot with immunizations updated every now and then. Between those two programs, one of em blocks it. Or it could be the SP2 update.

No pop-ups here either.

I took a look at the pop up, and it shows a "Tribalfusion" address to the pop up!
Not sure why this particular pop up gets by the Google Toolbar, which is suppose to catch most pop-ups?
Not a big deal, as it does close. I recently added Adaware and Spybot to eliminate such issues, which I'll run occassionally.
I DO have a "Smiley" type program on this computer which may be the cause as well? I use the Smiley portion of that particular program, but it seems to come with other things that I have no use for, yet deleting them denies me the Smileys.
This is while using Firefox.

I just started using no ads. Don't have a lot of experience with it but you could always check itout.
This tool stops Internet pop-up ads from getting in the way of your Web surfing. It is fully configurable, so you can specify which ads you want to automatically destroy.
This supports most Web browsers and runs in the system tray.

Using a different computer today, and I'm getting the same pop-ups as my main computer!
Along the bottom margin next to the START button, I get a whole slew of links showing me that another...then another pop-up (same one) comes up, every time I click on a PCMech link, whether its in the forums, or the PCMech main site!
I'd prefer to click on that particular site ONLY if I want to, and not because of these annoying pop-ups if possible! I would think PCMech would be better off to have only quality advertising, in which pop-ups where not needed.
Most of us really don't need more frustrations, especially if we are looking for help here on the forum.
Now...to look for where I can become a PCMech supporter...so hopefully pop-ups won't be needed!

If you are experiencing pop-ups where others are not, it's time to look at your own security and surfing habits.
If you are using Windows XP, updated to service pack 2 and use all of the programs advised in the System Security and Privacy threads, you should not be having these problems.
I would suggest reading the thread about posting a HijackThis log and try that. There is likely some bug that is causing this behavior.
I find the more stripped down my customer's systems are, the better they run. I un-install all unnecessary toolbars, media players and P2P networking programs in all of the systems I work on. I also install the following free programs for my customers along with an instruction file in Word format to keep them surfing smoothly and safely:
AVG free edition anti-virus
AdAware SE
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spywareblaster
Ccleaner.
