cant get downloads from windows update its all good and everything i have the genuwine notification thing and all that when it says lookin for updates it keep going on and on.....i really need service pack 2 the normal one not for professional IT'S It makes my computer crash

Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx) will send it to you on a cd.

If your pc crashes after installing SP2, chances are you're dealing with an infected system. I always take the following steps before attempting an SP2 install. Remove all unnecessary programs using the Add/Remove area of Control Panel. Run Disk Cleanup and delete all unnecessary files without compressing any files. Delete all Temp Internet files, including off line files, using Internet Options in the Control Panel. Scan with Adaware, Spybot and Ewido. Use the Ewido online scanner if you have high speed internet or download the free version and update it before scanning if you have dial up. If you're running McAfee or Symantec/Norton antivirus, remove them. Install AVG Free antivirus and do a complete system scan after updating. Finally, defrag your hard drive or primary partition. I have yet to encounter a problem following this procedure.

You can also check and make sure ur firewall is not blocking access to the site, do u have a router or another firewall prog installed on your system? do u have a popup blocker active? if so.. disable the popupblocker and firewall until u can get SP2 then reactivate.
