Is Video Card Upgrade Necessary?

I have read a lot of interesting articles about Video Card Updates. I am not a Gamer, but I do quite a bit of digital photography. I am converting a lot of old VCR tapes for my wife and I also record movies to DVD via TV tuners. My present Video card is an ATi 300 series. Would upgrading improve my recording quality? I don't mind upgrading I'm just not sure it will produce significant results. Any advice or other suggestions would be much appreciated. :confused:

Not really - a X300 is a good card for that kind of work.

I too do a lot of video editing (analog camcorder to dvd) using Studio 9. I had Studio 8, then bought the upgrade to 9 (wish I had waited for 10). My problem is that when I upload through my Pinnacle movie box, I have to upload no more than about 10 minute chunks, because if I upload large chunks (like the whole tape) the audio and video are way off at the end.

And I should've said this first... the last time I did any uploading/editing it was with my Radeon 7500 64MB AGP. Now I have a 9550 128MB AGP. Would this be enough of a difference to allow me to upload/digitize larger chunks, or is this even where the problem lies anyway?

No, the video card has nothing to do with that. ALL a video card does is display video, it doesn't have anything to do with processing anything. The only thing a stronger video card will do for you is improve the rendering speed for *watching* graphics.

Would you have an idea what might cause the a/v to be out of sync when uploading large chunks?

Hard to say, but it's prolly an issue with Studio or the Pinnacle box.
