LCD TV as main monitor

i live in a small apartment at school, so i am doing everything i can to conserve space. right now i have a 17" lcd as well as a 27" television that is about 2 feet deep. what are your thoughts on using an LCD TV as the main monitor, so i am only down to one device. i found a 27" that is within my price range

i primarily do the whole internet/email/homework thing, but i also do a little graphic design when i have some extra time.

initially, i had planned to go with just a regular LCD with component inputs and run my dvd-recorder as a tuner, but the one i was looking at (Samsung 215tw) seems to have some quality control problems a la red vertical lines. i can't afford to be out a monitor if i have to RMA it. i realize there is always a chance of that, but based on the amount of people having problems with it (some recurring with the replacement) i don't want to take a chance.

Hi,

the technology for LCD TVs and monitors is pretty much the same. A TV is like a monitor, just with speakers and tuner.
TVs used to have a lower resolution, though. If your TV is a HDTV, the res. should be high enough to have alot of desktop space on it. Either way, just try it and see for yourself. You can't damage the TV by doing so.

Connect the TV to the PC, preferrably with DVI, and set the resolution in windows to the TV's native. That's it.

alright, i may just do that then. thanks for the info. i would never use all 27" as a monitor, but rather use the PIP function. my room is way to small, and i don't think i could get far enough away to take advantage of all 27"
