someone just bought something from me on ebay and have already sent the payment via paypal. the address is unconfirmed, therefore its ineligible for seller protection policy. i emailed ebay 3 days ago, and they never responded. i have heard horror stories about people having their paypal accounts frozen, and since i can't get any response from paypal or ebay, i am unsure of what to do

thanks for any advice

I personally state in all my auctions that I sell to PayPal verified addresses only. All other payments must be my Money Order or Cashiers Check. If you didn't specifically state something about a verified address, you're bound by eBay's conditions on selling. The buyer has paid, you must ship. I would ship insured with a trackable means and signature required for delivery. That way if there's something wrong with the package, the UPS/DHL/FedEx driver is right there for verification.

thanks for the advice. i will definitely put that disclaimer in my future auctions. ebay just responded, but they weren't much help, so i will ship it as you suggested

Don't ship it. I shipped a laptop to an unconfirmed address -- it turned out someone had hijacked the PayPal account and I got a chargeback. Luckily I managed to get the shipment turned around and sent back to me, but I learned my lesson and will never ship to an unconfirmed address again.

Refund the payment (don't just send another payment back; there is a Refund option in PayPal) and ask the person to send a new payment from a confirmed address. If the person is legit they should have no problem doing so.

i just refunded the money. i had emailed the paying address on thursday, and they never got back to me, leading me to believe that there was a possibility of a hijacked account. granted, they could be on vacation or something, but i just don't want to take the chance as the item isn't just pocket change

thanks for the advice

Be prepared for negative feedback...

Unconfirmed addresses are simply addresses that are not matched to a bank account or CC account. I have a 100% positive rating and over 300 eBay deals and up until 6 months ago, my PayPal address was unconfirmed because I used my studio address for my ship to address. Don't assume it's a hijacked account, and many people don't live/breathe e-mail so I'm not suprised there's been no response to your e-mails.

i would be inclined to agree if the names btw the accounts and addresses matched, however, they are significantly different. i am prepared for the negative feedback if it means keeping myself from dealing with that kind of issue. my dad's ebay account got hijacked about three weeks ago and it was a nightmare.

the buyer in this case is rocking a 60% positive rating, so there is obviously something up here. i am not going to put my money on the line. my money/products are more important to me than one bad feedback

If their positive rating is that low I wouldn't worry.

BTW, I also include in all my auctions that no bidders with a feedback rating below 95%.
