One Long and Two Short Beeps

I just finished building my computer and I am having problems. When I start up my computer, it starts beeping one long and two short and nothing comes up on the monitor. All the fans are working and I checked if everything is in place. Also, I reseated the ram and video card a couples times, and I tried clearing the CMOS. :mad: :mad: :mad:

Those are diagnostic beep codes.
Go here : http://bioscentral.com/
Find the bios used on your motherboard and the beep codes will tell you what's not working.

Video adapter error

Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.

Checked all of that. Maybe I got a bad video card? :confused:

I have the same exact problem. All the fans are working lights light up. I think it's the mobo problem. I replaced the PSU and the video card but it still doesn't work. Now I replaced the mobo. It's coming tommorow. I'll let you know. :)

Couple of possible things to check. Is the card in the PCI-E X16 slot and not one of the others? Auxillary power connectors hooked up to the motherboard and card if it has one?

Yes and yes. I read around and I found out that the ram I'm using is having issues with the motherboard. Maybe that is the problem?

Did you check to see if the RAM you got is compatible with that motherboard? AM2 is real picky about the RAM used.

Yes system ram can do that.
Like Cricket said, is it one recommended in the manual?

Hit qvl download on the left side of this (http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=0&model=1181&modelmenu=1) page for the list of approved ram. The only 1Gb ddr2-800 module on there is the Kingston KVR800D2N5/1G. There are also some people that have been having good luck using XMS corsair on some boards, not sure which specific part number and which specific boards though.

Okay thanks! Is there a big difference between 533mhz and 800mhz? I might just underclock the ram if there isn't. If there is, I'll try to exchange the ram for XMS Corsairs, since many people have sucessfully used them with this motherboard.

Something to do first is impose on a friend and try the graphics card in his computer.
If it's fine there that should answer your question.
If you don't have a friend with a computer you can use take it to a local computer shop and have them test it.
Half of troubleshooting is not overlooking the obvious.

Okay, I read around some more and I found out that I can get my computer to post with only one of the sticks. I tried that, the one long and two short beeps stop, but I get one short beep and another 3/4 secs after. Also, nothing shows on the screen.

Yes, I did. I changed the mobo and it works fine now. Now to get my internet working...
