Hi! I was just wondering why my internet connection randomly diconnects. I use a Linksysy router and I have no firewalls except the windows xp one. It happens mostly when I play video games. Can it possibly because I'm lagging? My other computer thats hooked up to the router works fine. Thanks in advance!:D

Hi,
Need a bit more info. What's the router model? Cable/DSL connection? Wired or wireleess connection? Have you scanned for virus/spyware lately? HTH

I would suspect that that junk aspire power supply that people repeatedly warned you against using is not up to the job of running your machine. That is about a 20-25 dollar power supply that they added eyecandy to justify jacking up the price and sucker people who are more concerned about looks than functionality and reliability into believing that they were buying a decent one because of the price.

The router model is WRT54G, cable connection, and wired connection. Yes, I scanned for viruses and spyware. I didn't update my user signature but I got a quality FSP or FPS PSU.

Any splitters on the cable between the modem and the cable entry other than 1 near the entry. In other words, you want the cable to enter the house, then 1 splitter then a wire directly to the modem with no other splitters on it and nothing but the modem on it. The other wire from the 1st splitter is for all the tv's stereo and whatever else is hooked up and can be split as needed. Also no amplifiers or signal boosters on the line that goes to the modem. The setup should be cable to modem, modem to router and router to each computer. And what version number is that WRT54G? Some of the newer versions have problems and just aren't very good compared to the older ones.

I have cable and my modem model number is sb5100
Cable? Where does a phone come into play?

Well he may very well be like me where he has phone through the internet. From comcast I get my cable TV, Internet, and phone service. The phone just plugs into the back of the modem.
I supposed he could be doing this as part of his internet plan to or have some seperate system like Vonage.
The SB5100 does not have a phone interface.

the cable comes from outside. Okay...Cable from outside>Splitter>Phone and the other splitter wire goes to my modem. Thne from the modem to the router. router to 2 comps. hope that helps.
No, that does not help at all. A SB 5100 is a cable modem - as in TV cable. This is coaxial cable that uses screwon F-connectors. Every phone I've ever seen uses flat 2 or 4 conductor cable with RJ-11 connectors that simply snap into the phone.

The problem is that my computer is not recognizing it.
Have you verified that in device manager? It may just be disabled. Windows will not find new hardware unless its been uninstalled.
If XP, right click 'My Computer' click on 'properites' click 'device manager'
If its not there, run the disk that came with it.
If it is there, and says disabled, you will have to enable it.(this may be in advanced settings)
If its there and says this device is working properly, disable it, restart your pc then go back and enable.
I wouldn't worry too much about the phone if its working. It sounds like you have one pc hardwired to the cable modem and the other is wireless. I'm guessing that the pc we're concerned about is the wireless one, and that it's dropping the signal.

When there is an exclamation mark on any device it most probably there is an interupt (IRQ) or any other resource is conflicting.
You will need check which one is it and need to disable either one of the conflicting device.
Once you are able to resolve this matter the exclamation mark will go away.
Anyway Network Adapter is seldom the cause of frequent disconnection.
Frequent disconnection usually cause by the splitter/microfilter, poor copper cable or connector quality or parallel line before the line that is going to the modem. Try to do a direct single (from the main line from the pole) to the modem.
Computer setting also could be a couse some time, also check for virus activity and trojan horses.
If all fails your designated port given by your ISP might need to be reset/replace or they might need to move your connection to different location.
If you added a network card without disabling the onboard adapter in the bios, you may get conflicts.

I downloaded the driver but the connection is not showing in my Network Connections.
It's not GOING to show if the device is flagged in device manager.

I tried disabling my onboard ethernet adapter but it still doesnt work. Does anybody know what CODE 10 is?
That is a driver problem or a resource conflict. Try moving the card to a different PCI slot.

I tried switching to a diffrent slot but it still doesnt work. If I can just get it to say Found New Hardware I think I can fix it. For some reason the first time I hooked it up it recognized it. I wiggled the card a little and then it worked. Unluckily I disabled my onboard network adapter and couldn't go online so it didnt work. I think when I didnt have internet connection and just exited it though I installed it or something. Does anybody know how I can get my computer to recognize it? <..>

You would have to uninstall it, and then remove any reference to it in the registry. I personally don't have enough knowledge to tell you how to do that. Afterwards, I would suspect that windows may reconfigure you're IRQ settings which would allow it to work. But I'm not certain about that.
BTW your computer is recognizing it. Removing the entrys in the registry will allow your computer to see it for the first time again. Which is what I believe you're wanting to do. This will give you the message: found new hardware...

EDIT:I found all PCI devices in registry editor. There's about 20 of them. Now I just need to figure out which one it is.

Ya...That's what I downloaded but it doesn't seem to do anything. When I try to uninstall in Add or Remove Programs the screen blinks and does nothing. When I plug my ethernet cable to the card it lights up and everyhting though. I have no idea why this is happening... If anybody knoes how to get it to say Found New Hardware please tell me. Thank you.

That's what I downloaded but it still doesn't work. When I try to Modify to install or uninstall other updates/application for it it says nothing. There's nothing to check(you need to check what to install or uninstall). I think there's supposed to be like the ethernet driver but nothing. Do I have to download something else?:(
EDIT:for some reason it doesn't show up in device manager at all now. I think the device with the exclamtion mark was the wrong device because I was kind of downloading a lot of stuff randomly. Please HELP! :(

Can someobody please download the driver for my network card and then reinstall without uninstalling it click modify and see what's on the list? I just want to know if it lets you check the boxes. When I click modify there is nothing to check or uncheck. Thx...
I think you may be best off at this point by doing a repair reinstall of Windows. This will redetect all your hardware. Procedures are in Tips and Tricks. Disconnect ALL USB devices, card readers, and peripherals when you do this and remove all cards from the system except what's essential (i.e. keyboard, mouse, video card).
