Is the life of DDR400 RAM coming to the end of it's time?
I've seen a few comments that lead me to believe DDR400 memory is old news and that it will shortly be replaced by the new DDR2 memory.

That's correct. Now that AMD have followed intel in the move to DDR2, the manufacture of standard DDR will decrease, and prices are set to go up.
I've just ordered some more RAM as an upgrade for that reason!

Oh dear :(
Do you think it would be worth maxing out what my motherboard can take before it starts to cost a fortune?
I'm guessing that since the prices will be rising I will be able to sell the modules for more if they proove to be overkill for me anyway.

Since you already have 2GB, I don't see the need to upgrade. XP can't address more than 3GB of RAM very easily, and I doubt you'd see a significant performance upgrade from any extra.
I suppose there could be an argument for buying more DDR now, if you plan on upgrading to Windows Vista soon after its release.

Cheers Freakitchen.
I think I will leave it for now and based on Microsofts extortionate pricing I can't see I will be upgrading to Vista in the too near future :(

I recently upgraded the processor and RAM in my main system to a 4400+ X2, and 2GB of DDR respectively. What annoys me about the situation is that whilst this system is certainly powerful enough to run Windows Vista when I eventually upgrade, I doubt I'll be able to upgrade my RAM easily or cheaply at that point.
Guess we can only wait and see.

I recon theres a possibility of getting it cheap on eBay anyway...
