View Full Version : SATA HDD problem

I am building a new system for a friend and have encountered a problem i havent had before, ive got the system all connected up, got the maxtor iso bootable for the sata installed the sata, then wen i run the xp setup the machine says the hdd could nt be detected??
Any ideas why, i have double checked all cables and installed the drive like 3 times now

When booting from the XP install CD, follow the on screen instructions regarding what to do if you need to install SATA disks. If I remember correctly, youre to press f6 to initialize this.

ok thanx for the link, but i have Maxtor Instalatinion CD i made from the ISO on their site, this is wat ive always used for installing SATA how come it wont work this time?

ok, the HDD is SATA2 hmm the MOBO says its supports SATA 150, cud this be the issue??

There should be a jumper on the drive that needs to be in a certain position to get around the Sata2 issue.:)

What brand/type of hard drive is it?
You should not use the Maxtor software to install the drive. XP has everything you need to do it. You MAY need the SATA drivers on a floppy, depending on motherboard and which port you are using. Please list the exact motherboard model, hard drive model, and which SATA port you are using.
