Does it make and differance if your computer can ping or not?

Does it make any difference for what? Are you asking if you need the ping command to have a working IP stack? Then the answer is no. It will just make it harder to troubleshoot.

When doing a test at dsl reports it states I should become pingable.

Or if you mean. does it make a difference if your computer can be pinged, yes it does. If your IP can't ping the machine, it might drop the connection after it has been idle for a certain length of time.

Ah, that's different. That means allowing your computer to respond to incoming ping requests.

I don't know if there is a reason to be pingable, other than that allows other computers on the net to see that there is a computer attached to your IP address. Is that necessary? Usually not. I prefer when my computer is invisible to the rest of the world.

I have SBc DSL nd I never drop connection. I have a desktop which is wired to a Linksys router and 2 laptops that are wireless and I never lose connection on any of the 3. I just don't see why I should be pingable if I'm having no problems at all.

If your computer isn't "pingable", that won't affect your connections to anything. That just means that if somebody tries to ping your IP address, they won't get a reply. That's usually a good thing.

If your IP isn't dropping the connection, leave it unpingable.
