Ok I have ubuntu linux on my laptop. I want to install xp pro on it so I put in my xp cd and booted from it and got this message:

file pciide.sys caused a unexpected error (18) at line 5882 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c.

press any key to continue

What do I have to do to install xp? Is it something with my harddrive? Thank you for your help.

Last time I checked, if you wanted to dual boot with a Linux distro you had to install XP first.

I accidentally deleted windows while in linux. But I don't want to do a dual boot anymore I just want xp on it.

Is there some kind of software that I can install on linux to wipe my harddrive clean then install xp?

Boot from the XP CD and choose the main partition on your hard drive. It will format the drive and install XP.

You should zero fill the hard drive. You can do that with the Ultimate Boot CD, using Darik's Boot and Nuke or Active Killdisk.

Yep.
glc's advice.
Wipe the disk first then install XP.
