ok, so ive never been much of a PC gamer since the times of starcraft. what games have i missed out on? i have doom III and play that once in a while.
my friend reccomended CS: Source. im looking on newegg and it looks like they have these two options
Counter-Strike: Source The retail version of also includes Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Day of Defeat: Source (27.99 i think)
Half-Life 2: Game of the Year Edition also includes the original Half-Life single player game updated on the new Source engine, and two of the world’s most popular online games, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Counter-Strike: Source. (35.99 i think)
whats a better deal? the half-life two sounds better to me, but my friend said that if i get the half life one we couldnt play it online in the same game...idk
any other games that are good? im more of a FPS person, not too big into RPGS.

CSS is great, but DoD:S is my favorite. both excellent fps, but if you are into a more modern fps w/ driving abilities you might look at Battlefeild 2. you can download the demo, and see how you like it. i was going to buy it, until i saw some preview for the next battlefeild lineup, battlefeild 2142. if you really like doom 3 then try out F.E.A.R, but i'm pretty sure you'd want to consider upgading you pc, before playing any of these games.
my biggest advice is upgrade your pc first, because with that set up i dont think you'd really enjoy any games, playing at low settings.

A64 X2 4400+
2GB Corsair (XMS or ValueSelect not sure yet)
Asus SLI-Premium
7600GT (just one for now)
should be plenty since i dont game all that much.

FYI, the Half Life 2 engine will do fine on your current rig if you just get some extra ram. Even with just 1 GB of ram you could definitely play it on med to med-high settings.

Also, F.E.A.R. has released their entire online Muliplayer part of the game absolutely free ^^ So you can try that part out if you want.
The storyline is great though.

If he got a gig of RAM, that'd be a great start for his older system. Other than that, the only other thing you might want to look into is just like a cheap card if you're low on money. I'm sure the X-800 GTO 'll do the trick. It's like 80 bucks from PowerColor :D.
Good deal to me.
As long as you're on Steam you might as well get Red Orchestra-Ostfront 41-45. Another good FPS

GuildWars is really fun, but since you arent an RPG guy, I'd suggest FEAR and FarCry.
