Noob to print server / network

I have 2 pcs side by side in a 6' nook and a Epson RX500 between - When I had the newest one built (P4 3 Gig - 1 Gig RAM - XP Home SP2) and the older one (P111 1Gig 512 RAM XP Home SP2) wiped and loaded with XP -- the techs set up the network -- The PIII is used mainly for word processing and printing simple graphics for elementary school (my wife still teaches) the PIII is SLOW to print thru the P4 via network. I'm told a print server would help ---- any Ideas and where to research info ??? :confused:

Are the computers connected directly to one another or are they on a larger network?

Just to each other - no other network -- it is at home.
