Hi
I've had a problem ever since we got a new Epson D88 printer.
Our 2 pc's were originally networked by cable with a printer attached to one and they could both use our old printer (another epson). When we replaced the printer with the D88 only the PC attached to it could print. The other pc could see it, send a job, the job would show up in the print queue, say it was printing, but it just wouldn't print.
When we upgraded to a wireless network (with help from this board :) ) I thought we might get over the problem, but no, exactly the same.
Any ideas please?
Cheers
Neal

How did you network the printer? The way I try first is share it, go find it in My Network Places on the other machine, right click, connect.

The printer is just shared. It's not in My Network Places.

Then you aren't networking properly. Run the network wizard on both computers and choose computer is connected to the Internet through a gateway. This assumes you are using a wireless router.

Two of the pc's are wired into the wireless router. I've set up the network from your recommendation. http://www.forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=163080
The printer is connected to one of the kitchen pc's, the kids pc has it's own printer.

As I said, run the network wizard. If all computers are in the same workgroup and file and print sharing is checked in the firewall exception lists - and the printer is SHARED, you should be able to browse to it through My Network Places on the other computers and install it with a right click, connect.

My apologies, printer was in My Network Places, just had to go through workgroup computers to see it. Anyway did as you said above and it's exactly the same. I've got the dialog box for the printer status up here in front of me for both PC's, the document says it's printing on mine and the other, just nothing happening.
I've checked and rechecked the sharing, I've turned off the software firewalls completely. I can see and transfer files between the PC's, just can't print.
I'm confused as to why the print dialog box would show up on the PC which has the printer installed, shows the document as printing, shows the next job in the queue but does nothing, no error message, no program not responding.
One thing I've noticed and I have no idea if this has any bearing but....
in the dialog box the size of the print job on the originating pc is 1byte / 104 bytes and on the printer pc it's 844bytes / 948 bytes.
Any further suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
Neal

Uninstall the printer and reinstall it, try this procedure:

Still no good. Epson has a utility for ink levels called status monitor, that comes up on my screen with communication error, and the usual gubbins to make sure its turned on etc. Tried with software firewall turned off again.
I'm using Linksys WRT54GS router, is there anything in that that could be affecting it?

If your software firewall is not the builtin XP SP2 firewall, UNINSTALL it COMPLETELY. Try installing the NetBEUI protocol.

PC with printer had sygate firewall, uninstalled that, my PC was just using windows firewall.
Have installed netbeui on both PC's, still no difference.

I just gave up and got a free printer off freecycle in the end.
Thanks for all your help though, much appreciated.
