DVD Burner won't burn?

Hey
With a new pc came a new DVD/CD reader and writer. Now, since i installed the ATI RADEON X1600, wich need's a litlle extra power cable, the DVD won't read or write dvd's anymore! He still reads cd's, but not always, and if i want to write one, he doesn't see an empty 700Mb, like other pc's, but only +-486...

My system specs :
- mobo : GA-K8VM800M ( AMD socket 754)
- GPU : Radeon X1600 series
- CPU : AMD Semphron 3100 + ~1.8Ghz
- HDD : 2 Maxtor 40Gb
- DVD writer/burner: Nec DVD R/RW & CD-R/RW Drive ( Model ND-4570A, if it helps)

I'm thinking it's something with the power, together with the GPU and DVD writer. If i remove the ATI and use the (crappy) onboard GPU, the DVD burner works perfectly! If someone knows how to find out what kind of PSU i've got, maybe it'll help

the psu should have a label with the manufacturers name and model on it. You will need to look inside at the PSU and possibly remove some screws to get a better look.:)

Thanks, i'll check on that . Could it be possible what i'm saying? Because the Nec dvd runs properly if the Radeon x1600 is removed, i guess.. Or could it be something else?

Well, if you are using a power connector for the 1600 that is on the same branch as the DVD drive, it may be starving the DVD drive for power, this should not be an issue except on power supplies that are deficient to begin with. Hence the request for power supply details.

Ok, power supply says 300 W ( next to dc output on the label) . The dvd IS on the same branch with the 1600. I'll be changing that! 6223 btw: This is a pic of the cable giving 1600 'extra power. The cabel is also connected with an hdd!
I'm not really a computer expert, and wasn't thinking about different cables and such. I hope (and think) this is the solution. :)

Yeah, that's a floppy drive connector. 300 watts is pretty low for a video card of that strength - what is the BRAND of the power supply? How many amps does the label say for +5v and +12v?

Allright, problem solved! I used another power cable, and now my Nec DVD burner works like it should! (im so happy)
glc, i made a photo of the label (PSU), It says Component Pro, it came along with tha A-Open case. : 6226 Since now everything (still?) works fine, I'm not planning a new PSU or anything.

That's a quality power supply, it's made by Fortron. You should be fine.
