I'm new in this forum and have absorbed tons of useful info already. I did my search prior to asking my question and did not find the answer that i'm looking for.

I have a laptop that i'd like to make a ghost image of. My HD is not partitioned so everything is compiled in C drive. if I create a ghost image of this HD does it copy the whole C drive including all data OR does it just copy the windows setting inlcuding the programs?

Also, I'm trying to learn how to copy the whole drive into a new one. Since i only have a laptop, how do i go about slaving a destination drive? It seems like Norton Ghost 10 doesn't recognize HD connected through USB.

I just bought the norton ghost and partition magic and I am very motivated to master using these great tools.

Thanks in advance.

John

It will copy the entire drive, not just Windows settings and programs.

I'm not sure if Norton Ghost 10 recognizes USB drives. I think 9.0 does, so it would be strange if 10 did not.

Well, Ghost 10.0 recognizes USB drive when i'm creating recovery point (ghost image) but it doesn't give me an option to use drive connected through USB when I'm trying to copy the whole hard drive.

thanks for the answer Dr. Gonzo

One more question, is the ghost image a compressed file that i can fit a 60 gig drive into a DVD? Or should i partittion my drive and separate my data file and program file from the windows folder, this way I can ghost the windows folder alone. Is that right?

You bought the wrong software and external drive to be able to clone through USB. Apricorn external drives come with cloning software to do exactly that.

I highly doubt you can image a whole 60gb drive to a DVD - unless the drive is pretty empty. You would have to image it in chunks and use multiple DVD's.

Gotcha! that's what i just suspected but it's not the only reason why i bought the softwares. Anywho, i just picked up a hitachi harddrive with external enclosure and its own software to do what i need to do.

Thanks for the help guys.
