What is the main difference between a proxy and a Router?

is cat5e cable suitable for 1000 mbit applications?

cat5e cable is 350 mhz and cat6 is 250 mhz but what does it mean?

a router is just a physical gateway out of the network to another network. a proxy is usually used to aggregate traffic, log it, cache it etc then forwards it out to router(s). You can use a proxy in a case where you have a private WAN on one router and the internet on the other. the proxy can ID the traffic type and its intent and direct it to the proper router.

cat5e is fine for gigabit applications as is cat6.

not really sure on the mHz thing and not really sure where it owuld pop up in the real world. GLC might have a better take on that...to me, the intergrity of the cable is either yes or no, works or not.
