first time build, got a problem

So far I installed the video card, ram, mobo, processor, processor fan, and CPU. I power on my computer and everything comes on for only like a fourth of a second or less and everything powers off. I heard fans starting up for only a fourth of a second too but then they turned off.

I checked inside my case; the LED on the mobo is on. I switched power cables, checked the outlet, checked the psu switch. No problems there.

Any help is appreciated

One thing I should mention too.....when I powered on my keyboard lit up for a fourth of a second too.

tell me what you think of that mobo, im going to be buying that one if i don't get a core 2 duo

Sure, once I get the thing working.

After searching online, I found one probable cause could be incorrect grounding. I screwed my bolts without using washers and they are touching the mobo. The mobo is on standoffs. Could this be the problem?

Are you screwing ALL screws and stand off on ur mobo? if not, it could cause a shortcircuit? but i would like some one to back me up there.

The motherboard is sitting completely on all 6 standoffs and it is not touching the case. There is nothing inbetween the mobo and the screw. The bottom side of the screw head is touching the motherboard.

Two of the more common problems to check for are is the square 4 pin CPU auxillary power connector plugged in and is the CPU heatsink locked down correctly.

Hmm that may be it.....the only connections from the PSU I made were the 24 pin connector to the mobo, the PCI-Express connection to the video card, the power for the CPU fan, and the power for the PWR_FAN. I don't know or remember anything about a "4 pin CPU auxilary power connector".

Did I miss anything?

Ok after trying the entire mobo completely outside of the case and on cardboard, I'm still having the same problem. When I short the power to turn it on, the same problem is still there. Computer starts up along with the cpu and video card fan and then turns off completely half a second later. LED on mobo is still on the entire time.

Okay, my thore out the window.

You need to plug in the 2x2 square power connection at the top of the board.

Thanks a ton that did the trick. Thought at first you guys were talking about the extra 4 pins on the mobo connection.

Everything boots up well and it displays ok. It also detects the processor and ram ok too. There is that slight problem of "Intel uCode error" but from what I found that's most likely fixed by updating the bios.
