View Full Version : First Build - Won't Boot

My C2D E6600 finally arrived and I put together what's eventually going to be a great PC, but on the initial boot... nothing. I tried the "Having Problems With a New Build?" sticky thread - - only ran the power supply, mobo, video card, and RAM with nothing else and still nothing.
When I hook up the power cord, the standby light comes on, but as soon as I flip the switch on the back of the power supply, the light goes off and nothing happens. No fans turning, no beeps even. The video card and RAM are both snug and well-seated too. Running ASUS P5W-DH mobo, Corsair XMS2 2GB, Antec True Power Trio TP3-550W power supply and ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB video card...
Any ideas?

what standby light? is there a light on the Mobo that tells you that the power is connected? That what you are talking about? I know my asus has a green one. If that is what you are talking about and the light is on then the power supply swith is in the right position, if you flip it off, you are cutting power to the PSU

Dont turn the PSU off, that cuts the power......
Make sure every cable is the right way around etc, everything snugg, make sure no cables are stuck on fans. Is the mobo in the case while you do this. Are ALL screws etc screwed it properly etc.
Plug PSU in, turn switch on (only at plug and PSU, leave the computer itself off) then does the light show up? I belive it shood, then turn the switch on the computer ON. What happens?!

Feel a little stupid - I assumed the power supply switch functioned in the same directino as my last PC and wasn't really paying attention...:p
There's still a problem however. when it turns on, there's still no signal to the monitor and the only fan that works is the one built into the video card. None of the case fans or the heat sink fans work. It's weird cuz on the initial boot-up, they flinch a little, but then lay there still...
Is this happening with the motherboard out of the case sitting on the table? Is the CPU fan plugged into the correct connector and is the auxiliary +12v power supply connector connected?

It was happening in the case... I suppose I'll try the same thing agian outside the case when i get home from work today. And I did plug in the 12V cable and the heatsink fan is connected to the right plug on the mobo.

No, this was happening in the case, so I'll try it outside of the case when I get home from work. And yes, I double checked that the CPU fan was plugged into the correct connector and the +12V opwer supply connector was plugged in as well.
Sorry for the double post, it told me that my first one didn't take and made me log in again.

So far, I've managed to get all the fans spinning. Apparently the power supply cables marked "fan only" don't work for my fans, go figure. So everything as far as I can tell works... except no display. And I've triple checked the video card to make sure that it's seated in there as flush as can be... So now I'm kinda stuck again....
If you are doing this OUT OF THE CASE the fans should not be connected except for the CPU fan!
