after i got my radeon 9800PRO card a year or two back, i bought DOOM III to test it out. i played the game and thought the graphics were cool for a while, but found it to be repetetive...monsters charging at you, levels too dark to see anything, it got boring. i didnt buy any PC games for a while cuz of that, now im playing guidl wars and its much better. its weird, hated DOOM III as a person who likes shooters, and i like guild wars alot even tho i dont like most RPGS....

I am in agreement with you on both games. Doom 3 was repetitive, and I never even finished it. Guild Wars on the other hand is very action-oriented for an RPG, lots of fun to play.

Doom 3 is just hype. The game in itself sucks a mountain of backside the size of the Empire State building.

yeah, GW is fun, haha if anything i would change the "classic rpg quests" (go talk to this guy here/deliver this package to someone standing 100 feet away) with more action stuff. if i want to deliver packages, ill buy the RPG about being a UPS man...haha speaking of dumb games, i saw "john deere, american farmer" in the gamestop the other day

Like Alaron, I never finished Doom 3. Thought it was probably THE most repetitive game I've ever played.

Ithought the main problem was that D3 was too long. The graphics were good and the atmosphere tense. Generally I found it exciting and interesting but after playing for ages and ages and beginning to get bored I checked out a fansite to see if I was near the end and found I was only about halfway through!

I carried on a while but finally just couldn't be bothered. It is a shame really. Some games are too short but this one was definitely too long.

The other problem, was how slow the beginning was. you would run around for ages in the dark then suddenly some creture would jump out, you'd kill it then lots more running around for ages in the dark.

I think that if the game had been shorter, overall, it could have been a gripping game. As it was, it's length made it tedious. But top points for visual design, that's what kept me at it.

Man, you guys seem to really hate Doom 3. I thought it was pretty fun! Nothing groundbreaking, and I might be biased due to the fact that I love a good bang-bang game, but I played all the way through it.

Quake 4 was way better though.

So was FEAR.

I waited a long time for DooM III, as I was / am an original DooM fanatic and was quite disappointed. One thing is it seemed like they were more into showing off the fancy lighting effects than game play. One of the biggest thing I didn't like about it was it didn't really follow the first ones much in overall concept. No open spaces; I never noticed once the baddies going after each other. Sadly, it has very little re-play value to me, but I still occasionally play the first series.

Never bash that game. You have never experienced the ultimate farming experience until you master the virtual john deere tractor. Seriously, it's more fun than being a fly on a cow patty.

(I've actually never even heard of it before).

Agreed. I still play GW, though I never continued with DIII.

The thing I didn't like about doom 3 was that the enemies were always in really predictable spots which really took away the excitement. That and the fact you can't hold a flashlight and a gun at the same time :p

in Doom III, the graphics, the lightings are fantastic. But not the gameplay and the story. After a while of playing the game is not that scary anymore.
