So when I was orgiannly thinking of getting a new computer, i wanted one for gaming, and all the premade weren't good enough for gaming. So i decided to go down the route of custom PC because I could get everything I wanted. Well the main point was to get the PC i wanted, and wasn't really wanting to build it. But then i starting reading and stuff and thought this is going to be actually pretty fun building my own computer, but im still scared that im going to run into a bunch of problems. ( i have bad luck with everything, and im serious) and im just worried that ill buy all my parts and ill try to build it and it won't work and ill try everything and nothing will work and then ill just have spent all that money for nothing. My friend told me about this site, www.ibuypower.com and they make custom PC's with everythign you want, and they build it for you, yeah its more expensive but then ill know the PC will work. But what do you think? If i order all my parts to build it myself, adn i cant get it to work , is there anywhere i can go to get help? My friend built a PC but he lives far away and he said he had someone professional help him and he said i should see if there are professionals that help people build pc's...

Well the main point was to get the PC i wanted, and wasn't really wanting to build it.Really? Why not? Home built computers are the best. And to get one you have to build it yourself :D.But then i starting reading and stuff and thought this is going to be actually pretty fun building my own computer. It is fun and very satisfying.but im still scared that im going to run into a bunch of problems. ( i have bad luck with everything, and im serious) and im just worried that ill buy all my parts and ill try to build it and it won't work and ill try everything and nothing will work and then ill just have spent all that money for nothing. As long as you buy good quality parts and know how to follow instructions you should end up with a nice fast computer. If i order all my parts to build it myself, adn i cant get it to work , is there anywhere i can go to get help?Of course there is...right here. This is one of the main reason the PC Mech forums exists...to help people out with their computer problems. And we'll help you for free! What could be better than that?

im going to build it myself, im just worried, circket youve talked to me about it before, i asked you about the build not working and stuff, i mean im going to try to be extra careful, and if i screw everythign right, the rest is just plugging in stuff so shoulnd't be too hard

"is there anywhere i can go to get help"
Here :)
"but how do i know if a part is DOA?"
Plug in the PSU, and turn on, a little LED should light up on the mo/bo, if not, change PSU, if still not, check connection, if still not, then its the mo/bo. More or less, the easiest way.

but how do i know if a part is DOA?Simple...it won't work. Of course the computer would have to be assembled and powered up before you find that out.
Over the years I've encountered a number of DOA or defective parts (and these were from good manufacturer's, not cheap stuff). The parts included RAM, power supplies, video cards, optical drives, modems, hard drives, mice, keyboards, speakers, monitors and motherboards. I've never had a bad processor, NIC, floppy drive or soundcard but almost everything else I've had at least one bad one. I'd say I've gotten 1 bad part every 10th build or so.
