Where does HL2 Episode 1 install to?? I haven't looked to hard, just in where HL2 is installed, and under Programs. Setup didn't do a link to the game (or I missed it) and every time I fire it up, I have to go thru Window's Explorer or reinsert the disk...
TIA

Thanks for the tip, 786ARS. I found it in Windows Explorer, but it doesn't work direct from there, you have to use Steam as you mention. Kinda doesn't matter as I finished it early today :)

Yeah, you gotta add the options to the end to tell Steam what app to launch, ie, I made an icon and it says: "Steam\steam.exe -applaunch 380" - that end part just tells it to launch EP 1. I always launch the games from the My games window though.

Don't laugh, but I've never actually launched Steam (except for the tip above, and I had to figure out where to find that  ) but it's nice to know, now, where everything is. Thanks!

Heh, well I don't bother with shortcuts since I can load them from the games section in Steam. Whatever works I guess ;)

Is there any advantage to opening Steam? I always *thought* that was just for online gaming, which I don't do. Heck, I even have my firewall set to block Steam so I always start in "offline mode." So, am I missing anything?

Hmm, well it's nice to have everything in one spot without extra icons on my desktop...
Steam has to run regardless of whether you're playing online or offline, but I guess it's a matter of letting run in the background or bringing it up to play.

Hey wolfie!! Again... long time no see :) -- I'd love to try online gaming, but 1) I don't know anything about them or how to do it(truth hurts sometimes, eh?...) and 2) don't even have time to play what's on my computer now, and 3) don't know if my budget would allow...
As far as letting "them" update, and not to sound paranoid, but I am always reluctant to let an update happen that I don't have control over and don't know how to undo. Is that too paranoid?

I don't use the online play feature either, TwoRails. Mainly because I'm on dialup and it's just too slow (I'd get fragged by a broadband player before my first screen even loads! :D ). I do update every now and then though (which again, takes forever on dialup). I usually just play offline all the time and about once a month or so I go online and load Steam to let it update its files and stuff. Then its back to offlining it for another month or so. Some people think you need to use Steam online in order to put any command line parameters in, but any commands that can be put in the Steam command area can also be put in the Properties area in the game-starting icon on your desktop and they'll do the same thing.
