Looking at 939 board for my new build. Came across this part, what am I looking at?

it goes into an asrock motherboard. They were cheap alternatives when i was considering what i should put into a new system. I saw that part and wondered... two cpu? more ram? inexpensive solution to making a better computer system? or... just some hoey?

i was thinking... hell, i don't really need intel core 2 duo if i got two 4200+ or something in a rig...

am i wrong for thinking this way?

would that bridge card be able to utilize a 939 processor and an AM2 processor at the same time?

would the card slow anything down at all? or would it all work just perfectly fine?

EDIT: i guess im meaning to ask if the card would bottleneck anything?

Nope, just an AM2 processor, and it will only work on the boards listed in the specs (http://www.asrock.com/product/AM2CPU%20Board.htm). And you will need to get new DDR2 RAM.

thanks a lot, that is exactly what i wanted to know. I still may make an AM2 system using one of those cruddy old boards anyways, after all, it has good rams slots and would be cheaper LOL... thanks for clarifying.

how much better is the AM2 socket from 939?Right now, I wouldn't say it's ANY better. Like most new platforms, they're still working out the bugs between the processor, chipsets, and ram. Until they get those worked out, I'd probably stick with the 939 socket, unless you just like taking chances on having a build that might turn out to be really tough to get working (if it will work at all).

well it would be my first build, but i am no beginner by any means. I have "built/exhanged" parts with other computers of mine, just never to the extent of building a new computer. I am really looking for a good mother board for 939 though. 1x pci-e x16 is good for my graphics, i guess i don't need crossfire

The best 939 board for the money is the Asus A8N5X.

if you want to see what I have put into it, i believe the title to the thread is

"gaming computer this cheap? this good? or am i wrong?"

I believe it is the best for the money that I could make.
