View Full Version : TV tuner help... odd requirement

I have what may be an odd requirement for a TV tuner. I've heard that some of them require you to connect them to your sound card via the card's line in, using a mini-plug. The problem is that my sound card's line in is already occupied, so these types of cards aren't an option for me.

I've researched a little bit, and I'm not sure what "the other" type of connection is. according to the documentation from Intel, my motherboard has 3 audio connectors: ATAPI-style auxiliary line input, front panel audio, and ATAPI CD-ROM. I'm not quite sure how to verify compatibility before I purchase a TV tuner. Can anyone help?

EDIT: After a little more research, it looks like the tuner cards which require a connection to the sound card's line-in also provide their own line-in port (maybe for this very reason.) Is this just a pass-through, i.e., does it fall under "line-in" in Windows volume control? I'd like to be able to still use this separate input without having to run any of the tuner software.

DOUBLE EDIT: After some thinking, another question that comes to mind is this: Can I alternatively hook up my other input to the sound card's MIC IN port? And put the TV tuner into the LINE IN? I can use both at the same time, correct? I'm assuming the two will just be mixed, which is okay, since I don't need to use both at the same time.

Please help! :)
