downloaded 7.0 just because it would finally fix the forever-missing feature allowing me to download album art automatically, but the software is AWFUL! did they even test this stuff? worst of all, i tried going back to the old one and it seems that they made it so you cant downgrade to older versions after upgrading!

Lesson to be learned, always keep a copy of your original install, then you can uninstall the old, install the new... if you don't like it, uninstall the new, install the old.

Everyone keeps saying it is terrible... I am not having anything go wrong with it, thankfully, but I guess I am in the minority.

What exactly is the problem with it? I don't use it, but a friend of mine may upgrade hers for the video capability...

Is it crash-prone? Elaborate :)

i stick with x64 iTunes 6. - If it works, why upgrade?

Praise be that I don't update my itunes. If I'm not mistaken they upgraded to seven because of some copy-protection or something got 'cracked' in itunes 6. It works for me, therefore I have no desire to feel the wrath of buggy software. Plus I always found it to be a hassle to upgrade iTunes.

Before upgrading iTunes check the Apple Forum.
Better yet, do a search on this site.

Definetly stick with an Apple/Ipod forum or/and Google. For PC stuff I would go here.

I'm sticking with 6.0.3, because for 6.0.4 Apple decided that they would remove the ability for Windows x64 users to install it, even though it works just fine. What were they thinking?

They weren't thinking.
I can't find the link right now but 'tunes' says v7 works in 64 bit.

If some of you are looking to remove 7 and go back to 6, you can find the older installer files here: http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/

Sweet Fancy Moses! I was looking for an old-version, but my efforts turned up only news relating to iTunes 7. Good find.

problem is, they updated the library with the new itunes 7, so you cant go back using your old itunes library files.

Can't you just import the music files, and not the library file?

I belive you can, it uses XML which can be exported and imported through several versions of the application. Though I've never had cause to use it so someone would have to confirm this to be sure.

There's a fix for it there.
I have mine set to 44.1KHz/24bit and its working good now.
Just play with the settings in QuickTime until something works for you, or you can go back to iTunes 6.

I have isolated the problem to the sound settings in quicktime. Under the "audio" tab in quicktime's preferences you can select the type of sound output for audio. Setting to anything above 48khz results in crackling on my Audigy 2 Value Card and 24 bit sound results distorted audio so much so that it's not possible to listen to. Changing these values to 48kHz and 16 bit sound solved the problem for me. Just be sure to restart itunes if you want the settings to take effect. Hope this helps until apple solves the problem.

For album art I just use iTunes Art Importer (http://www.yvg.com/itunesartimporter.shtml) in conjunction with iTunes 6, and it works great. It just pulls album art from Amazon and lets you choose which you want. I will admit though that some very rare CDs don't have album art, but I doubt iTunes would have it either.
