What should be the right sequence to install Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.1 along with ADI2 Driver, Aztech IDE CD-ROM Driver(SGIDECP)and ATI mach32 Drivers? Computer came with boot disk with it's own config.sys and autoexec.bat.
Also, I read is a good practice after copying the cabfiles to run Smartdrive. Is this important at all? Are cabfiles copied for Win 3.1 too? Thanks.
I will answer the second question because I don't quite understand the first on proper.
There are NO CABFILES fro WIn3.1 and 3.11 Neither are there for DOS 6.22.
Smartdrivewill execute Dos programs faster - if enabled but it will also eat up some Memory.
Try to answer your first question:
A regular install would go like that
1.Insert the first MS-DOS diskette into the A drive and boot your computer - follow the instructions displayed on the Screen .
2.when finished then Use the drivere disk form the CDrom and install the CDROM .
3.Restart the machine place the Win3.11 Cdrom (if you have it on Cdrom) otherwise insert the first Floppy disk of Win3.11 and then type setup this will start the installation - don't forget to change the drive letter to either A:\= floppy or D:\= CDrom
For the graphic drivers you will have a option while you are setting up windows to insert the ATI drivers or when you have installed Win3.11 then in control panel you can change the Drivers for it or it can also be done from the c:\Windows prompt byu typing Setup and then Change VGA drivers or alike.

as Win3.1 begins to load. MS 6.22 installed, power configuration for monitor set. Ati vesa mach32. Is seems like something is not configured right or installed. Any ideas? Tried several installations.
What kind of machine you are using besides what we already know ? And how old?

Leading Edge Fortiva 5000 (Cyrix 486DX2 at 66Mhz). Multimedia Pro 161 soundcard.
The ATI mach32 has utility and drivers and there is also an accelerator driver(ADI2). There is also a LE boot disk that restores config.sys and autoexec.bat. I have been using this utility right after installing Dos 6.22 to restore those files.
It loaded now. I Fdisk and set up monitor's power configuration before formatting and didn't use LE config.sys,autoexec.bat. I think it wasn't loading because I was using the custom feature(VGA) to pick power configuration instead of using VGA from the selection. VGA still VGA. At any rate it's going. Thanks.
