I posted something about this in another thread, but it's dropped down a bit, so I thought I would post a thread about it, since it's a topic that I've been wondering about since I built my current PC about 6 months ago.
Heres the situation: I'm running Win98SE. I currently have 256 MB of ram. I am interested in adding another 256 MB. However, I have been hesitant on doing so, because I've heard of myths that Win98SE cannot handle more than 256 very well, to the point of performance actually going DOWN.
Is this true about Win98SE? Should I stay at 256?
I am fully aware that I won't see much of a difference when going from 256 to 512, but I run a lot of games, (both PC and emulated), and also run a lot of proggies simulatnously, so I figure the extra leg room couldn't hurt. And at under $40 for 256 MB of Crucial ram, how can I resist?
Also, are there any settings for Virtual Memory, Swap File size, Vcache, etc that are optimal for running 512 MB?
Thanks for any info :)
