When I boot an IBM Aptiva, the following message is displayed: windows protection error. you must restart your computer. This occurs before Windows 95 starts. Specs: Pentium 166, 16 mb RAM (16 original, 16 mb dimm added later, Windows 95 A version. I researched the problem online awhile back and I read somewhere that this sometimes happens to these machines with 32 mb RAM installed. I am reloading the OS in an attempt to sell this machine. I loaded Win 98 SE on this machine in an attempt to remedy this problem. That helped somewhat, but the message was still occasionally seen. Can anybody point me to a fix?

and that was my first pc. (sold mine to a friend about 1 1/2 years ago) hence my signature. i would see whats in the autoexec and config folder in case a dos driver or whatever is being loaded. they're in startbutton/programs/accessories/system tools/system information. open the (tools) header and pick system configuration. i think typing msconfig works the same in the start button/run menu. i think.
