i have an abit be6-2 ata66 and want to enable the ability for it to store files and shutdown and restart back at the same place without reloading win98se each time. i have never been able to get it to work. in power managment, i set it as home/office with standby after 1hr, turn off monitor after 10 min and hdd after 30 min. hibernate is enabled. in the bios, acpi is enabled, power saving is set to min (1 hr wait for all choices, standby etc. max savings would have been in effect after only 1 min but it didn't seem to work either. i had an old ibm with suspend which would shutdown immediately and startup at the same place without the lengthy reload of windows. any ideas as to what i am missing. everything else is working good since my last post about tweakui and wanting auto-logon of my network password box.

p.s. i do use the standby choice in the shutdown menu which shuts off the monitor right away, but the pc stays running (cooling fans). 1 for case and 1 for video card. both are plugged into the common 4 pin power connectors.

pp.ss. the bios sets doze, standby and suspend at 1 hr(min setting) and the hdd at 15 min.

i'm curious how many people have brands which have the suspend or hibernate feature. it allows for the pc to save where the user is currently at and shutdown completely until the next reboot which bypasses reloading windows and brings the pc up and ready in a few seconds. my old ibm aptiva had this suspend feature and i miss it. if anybody's pc's works like this please post a note with the type of pc so i can see if this feature is still common.

This feautre mostly will work only with Win2k almost on any computer you like - it will not work with Win9X line if your computer bios don't support it. So tho answer your question it's still around .

Ok, "suspend" is only supported by ACPI. If your BIOS is using APM, you can't "suspend", or at least I don't think you can.

i have the bios configured for acpi to be on with max power saving selected where the pc should go into doze, standby, suspend and hdd power down after being in standby for 1 min. (min power saving would set said paramaters at 1 hour). i have a choice of setting the apm at on or off but either setting doesn't engage the suspend and motherboard powerdown that i used to get with my older aptiva with win95. i found a website in my mb manual about acpi but coulldn't find specific info about phyically setting up the function on a pc.www.teleport.com/~acpi/acpihtml/home.htm

Use power management in the BIOS or in Windows - not both. Pick one.
