Loose Wires?

I'm in the middle of connecting all my wires to my mobo, i don't knwo where some wires go.
They are coming out of the front of my case and i think they are usb wires. The names on the wires are:

VCC
USB-1
USB+1
GND

VCC
USB-2
USB+2
GND

and coming from the main cord for the second wire is another GND wire, all by itself.

I just am confused on where to put these.

They are indeed the USB connectors. The motherboard manual will normally show clearly with diagrams and descriptions where they need to be attached.

What board are you using? What case are you using?

There are spots on my manual that say:

USB78
USB910

Do i plug the wires into those spots?

I also have some more connections that i am confused about.

How do i connect my CD-Rom drives to my mobo?

The only connector on my mobo that looks like it can connect to my CD_ROM drives is the PRI_IDE connector.

I am a little confused on this part.

Also i have no 4-pin chassis speaker connector, do i need one, and how do i get one if i need it.

Yes, your CDROM drives should connect to the IDE channels.

Your loose wires do connect to the USB connections on your motherboard. The motherboard manual should label the pins so you know which wire to connect where.

If your case doesn't have a speaker, don't worry about it. Your motherboard probably has one, or a voice.

Can i just leave the cords not plugged in if i don't want to use the front usb slots? i don't really need that many.

You don't have to plug the front USB ports in if you don't want to...you can always hook them up later if you decide to use the front ports.

If you are using IDE, and that board has only one IDE connector, you are limited. The cable supplied is engineered for CABLE SELECT. Jumper CD and Hard Drive CABLE SELECT.

Still a little confused since this is my first build. Would it be better if i posted a picture of the intended CD-ROM drives and the cable that connects to them and the port on my mobo?

Ok, I checked your previous thread.

The situation is that you have a hard drive, DVDROM and DVD Burner, but only one IDE channel on the motherboard. That means you can only connect two things out of three.

You have a couple options. To complete the build, just hook up the hard drive and one of the optical drives. Then you can get to using the system right away.

Your best bet however, would be to replace the hard drive with a new one that uses SATA.

A final option would be to buy a PCI card that has extra IDE slots on it. These are rather inexpensive and you'll be able to hook up all three drives and be ready to go.

I've decided to not reuse my HDD and i got a SATA one that i already hooked up.

If that's going to be your boot (main) drive, then yes.

Ok i should be ready for my initial boot soon

And so i pushed the power button on my comp and nothing happened, but then i realized that i didn't flip the power switch. Anyway i switched it, turned it on, checked everything fans etc, and put my OS CD in and rebooted.

Intitial boot was a success! Thanks to everyone who helped me fix myself up with a new computer. Gonna connect to the internet and update my drivers.

Yes it did, i just have one more question, what temp should my comp be running at when i am just surfing the net or doing minimal stuff?

The Core 2 Duo's run pretty cool. It's tough to know what temp it should run at, consiering everyone's setup is diferent, but anything under 50C load is perfectly fine. Idle should be lower then that, maybe 40C.

I just build a system with an e6600 Conroe processor. Here are my temps:

45C-48C idle
50C-54C load

I'm not too impressed but not disappointed. If your system was too hot, you'd notice. Infact, it should shut itself down. Originally when I couldn't install the HSF right it registered 95C and still didn't shut down, so I think you'll be fine.

By the way throw on an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro you'll get 28C/35C :)

As long as you don't have stability issues (ie, the computer shutting down because it's overheating) the temps should be fine. If the CPU is too hot, it'll shut down to protect itself.
