View Full Version : Printer Deterioration?

Two years ago I purchased a Gateway system which came with an HP Deskjet 610 CL printer. Since I had a good printer already, I just stored the new one in my closet, unopened. My questions: Does anyone have an opinion or experience concerning storing this type printer for an extended period? In other words, will components deteriorate or dry out, thereby making the printer inoprable when I eventually remove and set up?
Thanks,
Ron

The printer will probably not be hurt at all if the cartridges were never installed or removed before storing. Ink pigment has a way of settling to the bottom of unused cartridges over time and becoming unusuable. In fact they have an expiration date on them. If they are shaken about once a year (like a paint can for about 5 minutes. Just to redistribute the pigment. You don't even have to take them out of the box) they should last indefinitely.

Thanks, Carl for the information. I am sure you are correct ... and feel a lot more comfortable about keeping the printer stored.

Way prices fall is this industry I would probably sell it while it still has some value (admitted not that much) rather than let it set until there is no value. Just my opinion and like aholes everyone has one.

I agree with confused, not only are printers getting cheaper but also adding features and resolution. Therefore you could send it to me.

Morriswindgate, thank you for your willingness to accept a potentially defective printer. You are too kind. But why would I fob off this possible problem on a fellow computer user? That would not be nice, would it? No, I'll just bear this burden myself. I'm such a hero. But thanks for wanting to assist.
