Hey everyone, I just had a quick question as to if its feasible/practical to upgrade my current setup. Currently I have a P4 2.6 Ghz, 1 GB DDR ram, and an X850XT video card. I was thinking about selling the CPU, Motherboard and Video Card on ebay (I esitmated I could get around $450 total for those 3 components). Then I was going to buy an AMD 939 socket processor, get a new mobo, and a new video card. Basically my belief was that I could almost break even after selling my old components and buying the new ones. Is it really worth it? I figure I could salvage everything else, and its a plus that Socket 939 still uses DDR ram, so I could keep the ram I have now.
Also, I have an Antec Lanboy case with a 350 watts power supply, would that be enough for the new system?

Why do you want to upgrade anyway? Your current system isn't a slouch and probably does everything you want it to do easily.
You did say which motherboard you have, but I really don't think you'll be able to get $450 for those parts. Computer parts don't really hold their value really well and may be worth less than 50% of what you paid for them by now (maybe even less).
The 350 watt PSU would probably be a little skimpy if you were to upgrade...and you would probably need a true ATX 2.0 PSU with the 24 pin motherboard connector if you did upgrade.

I probably don't really need to upgrade, but with the recent price cuts of the socket 939 processors, I figured it may be worth it if I could come out close to even and get a better system out of it.
I have an Asus P4P800-Deluxe motherboard. Basically what I was doing was looking on ebay and seeing what my components were going for on there. The processor sold for around $143 (which I know seems really high for it), the mobo for about $95, and the video card for about $207. Those are probably all best case scenarios but I still figured it would be around those if I set up a good auction page.
Another reason I sort of wanted to upgrade was for Vista, but I suppose with the launch not until 2007 I shouldn't really worry about it now.
Those are prices for NEW components, not used. Cut those in half for used.
Wait till Vista is out and somewhat debugged before you upgrade.
