If the P4 CPU is an older 478 socket, your options for a 478 P4 and PCI-E mother board are very limited. Also, if the video card is an upgrade from an AGP video card, your also probably looking at a PSU upgrade too.

Which exact Pentium 4 processor, please? What exact brand and model is your power supply? What type, size, and speed are your memory modules? Please give us details of any other components you already have or plan on reusing. Are you trying to upgrade the motherboard in a name brand prebuilt computer (BAD idea)?

We really need exact details when asked for in order to give you accurate information.

If that's the same system. I didn't see a PCI x 16 expansion slot listed. That Video Card will not work. You will have to utilize a PCI Video Card. There aren't too many great options there. Also, it indicated a 300 watt PSU, which may be HP specific, if you decide to boost that up. Check PC Power & Cooling on that. You can probably squeeze by with that PSU if you end up using a PCI card.

You are trying to upgrade the motherboard in a name brand computer which is a BAD idea.

Your case does not have adequate cooling for a high end video card, your power supply does not have enough power for it, you can only use a micro-ATX board in it, and finding compatible boards that support standard DDR is getting hard. Here is the only decent board I can find if you MUST do this:

sorry to bother u but can u find me a really good cooler that will fit in my case that run silently? the ZALMAN heatsink is good but i not sure it will fit.it seem to have Dimensions of 96 x 96 x 30mm. what do u think?

Tip: You don't have to go with an Intell board. You just have to make sure its a socket 775 and micro atx form factor.

You do need to make sure your power supply connector will fit a retail board. This may be a problem, verify before you buy. You will also have to modify the front panel connectors, this a given. These connectors are always set up differently in propietary maqchines. Also be ready to modify the back panel, you'll probably run into that.

Lastly watch closely for clearance, these pavillions are notorious for limited space. your machine probably has a pull out carrier, you may have room to install everything but not the clearance when you want to push it back into place!

well i was planing to get a bigger case but i just really doestnt want to take everything out and put them togethor again

Yeah, I know how you feel. I didn't want to just toss aside my pavilion either. I did modify one and it would have been alot easier to just get a cheap case to put it all in. If you do it once, you'll never do it again. I had a lot fun making it work, but it's really not worth the trouble. Unless your just stubborn, like myself :rolleyes: it's really not for the 'wanna get it done' types. Takes alot of time, research and effort. Mostly I was really being a cheapskate.:eek: Shssh don't tell.:)

rwest - have you looked for a micro 775 board with a proper PCI-E slot that supports DDR recently that's not junk? Other than that Intel, all I can find have VIA or ATI chipsets.

If you get a proper case, you have more options - there are still some decent full size ATX 775 boards with Intel chipsets out there that support DDR.

However, I think I'd bite the bullet and get some DDR2 ram and a motherboard that will take a future processor upgrade to a Core 2 Duo.

Panama, thanx for the link. This was actually my first build, so I kept to a slot one format to be sure of fit. I took it from a p2 450 @ 100 fsb to an oveclocked 866EB running at 945 with a 133fsb. The largest ps I could find to fit the case was 350w. I have two cd drives, two hard drives,a flloppy, and a gorce2-mx400. I may try do some thing else with it later though. For (removed by admin) and giggles.:)
