Is the Intel bios retarded? Wouldn't this thing have shut off by now. It's been running for a minute. All my other temps are like 36C, etc.

Make sure your heatsink is situated properly. The sensor could be calibrated incorrectly, that happens sometimes, but you should double and tripple check that you A) do not have too much thermal compound so it acts like an insulator, and B) the heatsink is secured correctly.

It is the stock intel hsf... i could double check i guess. everything else is okay though. wouldnt it have shut off it its too hot?

it goes from 83-84C fast. Also, how do I reseat the HSF without totally screwing up the pre-applied thermal compound

my hsf does shake when i move it, so it is loose and i will have to reseat it.

Remove the motherboard from the case and unlock the 4 pins. Snap them down COMPLETELY into the motherboard holes and relock them one at a time.

Make sure the motherboard is out of the case and give those pins on the heatsink a good hard push. Support the motherboard so it doesn't bend. You have to get a "click" when those pins go in. If it's moving around, it's not snapped in all the way.

Thanks I just pushed down very hard until I heard a "snap!" It now says 40C. I like that much better.


Errrr... now it says 48C... any ideas? I can't make this thing any tighter I might snap my motherboard!

That's better...it's going to be a little higher after you run it a while as things warm up. As long as all four pins are snapped and locked into place, you should be fine.

I need to take it off now I realized I got the 4 pin cable stuck under there - not on the processor, but wrapped around one of the HSF pins - not touching processor but still.
