Intel Pentium 4 6xx series

When searching in the price lists in my place, I found out that the Pentium 4 6xx series are not there anymore. Even suppliers are not stocking up on these supplies. They rather put the 531, 524 and then the 540 in the stores.

But I thought that there are price slashes for the higher end P4 6xx series? I want to get one of these, but it is not there anymore. What do you think about the 6xx series? :eek:

I imagine production on the 6xx's is ramping down (especially the older 6x0's) and switching to dual cores. For example, the 630's price on Newegg is about $25 more than the 930. Even the 631 is more expensive than the 930.

For a couple bucks more you can make the switch to Core 2 Duo.

Of course, the market/pricing on your side of the world is probably a lot different.

In my place, there are no more 6x0 Pentium 4s anymore. Not even one.

I kinda like these because it has HUGE 2MB cache. The best of all Pentium 4s, I guess.

Yeah - I agree, now the Core series are even much better. For that lowest end model (E6300) and with the same price at around 150 dollars (as in November 2005 for P4 630) I can directly get that E6300. Add a few hundred dollars more, I can get the Asus P5B and some RAM too. :cool:

Production of 6xx has ended I believe - and you are seeing secondary market prices.

What about 9xx? It has 2x2mb cache and is compatible with quite a few motherboards that were made for 6xx. The 9xx is the best Netburst in my opinion.

Yeah - my 640 sells for about 200. less than it did when I first got it. If you can even find a 640 now. Evolution my friend.

Maybe the newer Pentium D 9xx series has totally replaced the P4 6xx series. The Pentium D 915 has two cores which each core is equivalent to a Pentium 4 630 and the price is much cheaper.
