Ok I just recently got a new computer here are the specs...
-T-bird 1.4 ghz
-ECS K7VTA3 motherboard
-256megs PC2100 DDR
-Voodoo 5 5,500 agp
-SMC ethernet card
- SB!live x-gamer
- 60 gig Maxtor Plus Hard drive

The story goes, Ok i got this new computer and iam all excited so i put it together. First thing wrong was the Power LED wire wouldnt fit on the motherboard, because it only had 2 pins availible for it and it was a 4 pin connector. So i thought who needs a Power LED neway. Then i went on and formatted and installed Windows ME. Everything is going fine and i install my favorite game (Unreal Tournament) and start to frag away. Then it happend. Not all The time but most of the time, for no reason, It would freeze. Just out of nowhere, FREEZE! I would have to restart my computer and then wait on my dsl to drop the connection so i can connect back to the internet. I thought, well maybe this is just a bad installation of the game. SO i reinstalled and still the same problem. All my drivers for the game windows the motherboard EVERYTHING updated to the newest possible. My processor cant be overheating because i took the side panel off and have a big fan blowing nice cool air into it. The ram i tested with a prog and no errors. I decided to try a different game. Aliens vs Predator 2, the demo. First time i ran it, it went okay....or so it seemed. When it finally loaded the level and everything I was like okay cool. I tapped the foward key, and after one step, BOOM FREEZE. So i restarted...I ran the game again a couple days later, and it didnt freeze... WTF... So i tried Black and White....The intro in the game would freeze my computer everytime...BUT in different places..So i went back and played some more UT. It freezes the most at the beginning of matches in tourney mode when you just talk with each other waiting for the straggler to come in so you can start the match. It freezes when i type too sometimes in the beginning of the match. This is what else i have done. I have reformatted 3 times. Still freezes...I put a different ethernet card in.....Still freezes.....Bought a new Hard drive.....Still freezes....Asked for other peoples help...They told me to update the VIA 4in1 drivers... did that....update sblive liveware...did that....download the amd agp patch....did that....Still Freezes!!!.....So now iam stuck with a fast computer that freezes and i cant figure out why. I also cant install RA but that dosent mean that much too me (rocket arena - it crashes my UT). If any1 could help me with this problem i would be soooo unbelievebly happy. To have a computer that owns, and dosent freeze. It has gotten to the point where i wish i had just stayed with my p2 350 mhz, 256 megs sdram. Please help me....thank you for your time!

also i thought it might be the settings for the ram in cmos, so i tried different variations with no luck. Right now both options are set to spd, and the third one is 2Tcommand or something, iam sure you know what ima talking about. DRAM timing etc.

Yes, overheating can still be a problem if the heat sink was not properly installed. First of all, what are you using for a heat sink and fan? Did you use any thermal compound. Check the hardware monitor in the BIOS, what kind of temps are you getting. Also, are you sharing any IRQ's anywhere?

Adjust the settings for the video card a little slower/lower. A resolution of 800x600, 16 bit should be lots, until you resolve the video timing issue, then you should get 1024x768, 32 bit, with no trouble.
