Hello,
Here's the deal... I also play Unreal Tournament on my PC, but one thing i dont understand is... While it pings the game servers and while it switches Maps/Levels in between each game is that it freezes/stalls for about 20-30 seconds. I dont understand why . My friend Runs Windows ME, as I do, and he never has this problem with UT (Unreal Tournament). If anyone knows why, or can help me, I would appreciate it SO MUCH! Because this really annoys/irritates  me while i am playing, and then all the suddon it freezes/stalls.
Thanks for your time,

PS: This doesn't happen all the time, I would say about every couple games or 30-40 mins Maybe, but I'm not positive. Thanks again :)
Are you by any chance using a dialup modem - and is it a "winmodem"? If so, that's the nature of the beast - software controlled modems suck up CPU cycles to do their work and are terrible for gaming. It could also be ME taking a "snapshot" for System Restore.

Well i have verizon DSL. It uses WinPoET to connect to the internet. And also required software... is that the reason then?
thanks again

Winpoet is awful - and NOT required - you can uninstall it and install RASPPPoE (http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/) and use the standard Windows dialup networking to log in. Winpoet and Enternet are both bloated piles of junk. I don't know if this is your problem, but that's where I would personally start.

I have a lucent win modem that I used connection wizard to set up an existing account. When I play online, I will ping around 250-350 at start, but once in, it fluctuates widely; I have pinged as high as 9000 and average between 2000-5000, when it fluctuates. I have a dial up connection; dsl doesn't reach my home, yet. Is this normal?
That can be normal for winmodems. Winmodems and gaming don't always get along well together. External serial hardware modems such as the Supra Express and USR Sportster are best for this kind of use.
Try disabling V.90 and Flex on the LT Win with s38=0-v90=0 in Extra Settings. This should improve the ping stats.

I am an Unreal Addict. I have over a 200mb of mods and levels and voice packs. I can't stop playing it; it has replaced all my wants and needs and desires:eek: I have a 1.7 P4 with a Geforce 3 and soundblaster live 5.1 and it is still doesn't get me inside the game far enough. I want a cranial jack; I want to experience the game.
By the way, one change that I noticed upgrading from 256 ram to 640 and from a 3d prophet to a geforce 3 is that when you get a head shot the head flies off and will bounce off walls, leaving bloody trails. If you are crack sniper, you can shoot the head and make it bounce faster and farther.
