Hello all,

Well, most of you know i was fussing around with my new rig i am planning to build and im still quite happy with it, but at the end of my planning i saw some posts reccommending waiting until after Christmas and re-do my list, well, i am. But i am very much for AMD's processor's, i dont know why, but i am. And in my sig you can see i am going for an Skt 939 X2 4200. But in more recent posts i have found that Intel C2D is the way to go, and is whipping AMD's butt. So how long is Intel "the way to go" until AMD catch up, and is there any new products from AMD planned for after Christmas or am i looking in the completely wrong direction and Intel will still rock? And will i have to wait until 6 months after Christmas to see and good processors from AMD. I am willing to go to either way if it means more Bang for the Buck. And i also dont really mean which is better AMD or Intel, just who will have the best processors after Christmas.

Right now my budget is unlimited, i dont mind the prices right now im just looking for the product. Plus i am looking for gaming power, speed and Dual Core, if that helps.

Sorry to rabble on and i thankyou in advance for any comments, they are very much appreciated.

But in more recent posts i have found that Intel C2D is the way to go, and is whipping AMD's butt. So how long is Intel "the way to go" until AMD catch up, and is there any new products from AMD planned for after Christmas or am i looking in the completely wrong direction and Intel will still rock?Based on the past performance history between AMD and Intel I'd say Intel will remain on top for at least two more years...these things tend to go in cycles and AMD has been on top for quite some time now (probably since the P4s made their appearance...the P4s were always a bit slower than their Athlon counterparts). Before that, things were kind of even between the Intel PIII Coppermines and Tualatins and the AMD Athlon Thoroughbreds and Bartons. And will i have to wait until 6 months after Christmas to see and good processors from AMD. I am willing to go to either way if it means more Bang for the Buck. And i also dont really mean which is better AMD or Intel, just who will have the best processors after Christmas.I'd have to say that the C2D processors will still be the way to go even after Christmas. I don't think AMD has anything new on the horizon because they just introduced the AM2 package not too long ago.

Whenever I need to upgrade or build new, I just look at what's available at the time and do a careful parts selection so that the new computer will meet my current needs. I never look at what's on the horizon because there is always something new and better beyond that. If you always wait for the next big thing, you'll never build.

Why dont you just get a quad core Intel Processor then. Of course, I did see some interesting benchmarks with regards to Arithmetic Performance between Intel and AMD. Intel is not the Dominant force in this benchmark. See my post with the Sandra 2007 benchmarks. By the way people talk about Core 2 Duo AMD should just be turtle slow, but I just have a hard time believing that.

AMD is soon coming out with quad-core, and it will be true quad core, not 2 independent dual cores crammed onto the same package like intel's. Does this mean it will be faster? Hard to say. AMD's X2 and Intel's C2D are true dual core, while the pentium D was 2 single cores crammed onto the same package, and there was a huge performance difference between those architectures. AMD's quad core is also supposed to offer per core power management, which should save lots of power and make the chip run cooler. It sounds like a pretty sweet chip, but it's not as far along in terms of when it will be released as intel's quad core. I would either buy now, or just wait until intel's quad core comes out.

Like Cricket said, if you keep waiting you'll never build anything.

Okay, thanks for all your input guys. I dont think i will keep waiting, im going to defo wait until after christmas and build then. Unless of corse it will be only someting like 2 weeks to a new release date, other wise i will go for what is on offer then and go for it.

Again thanks for everything. I will also be looking into things over time and post some results too :)

If you need a new computer now, build it now (or after Christmas).
