I have recently connected to cable internet service and having problems with downloads. The download will stop before finishing. I cancel the download and the browser seems to be completely disabled. I can click on back or a new page but get no response. The only way to get going again is to shut down. If I add the page to favorites and go directly back, the download will proceed normally. Also the shutdown hangs at the “windows is shutting down” screen forcing a hard shut down.

Same thing when attempting to open a page that times out and doesn’t open.

Windows 98SE – IE 5.5 - 1.2 gig athalon – abit kt7a MB – 3com fast etherlink xl 10/100 tx Ethernet (3c905-tx)

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Try clearing your temporary internet files and deleting everything in c:\windows\temp, then adjust the allocated space for them to a value larger than the largest file you anticipate downloading.
