2 out of 3 discs in RAID

Is it possible to have 3 hard disks in my system, 2 of which are in RAID 0+1 and the 3rd disk just running on its own?

I want the discs running in RAID 0+1 to store all my files, such as photos and videos, that I do not want to loose. The 3rd drive would be the OS and programs etc. that I can easily replace/reinstsall.

It shouldn't be a problem if you have enough channels to plug them all in.

I had an bootable IDE drive with a raid 0 setup on two sata drives.

RAID 0+1 requires 4 drives by itself.

Oh ok...I'm sure we use RAID 0+1 on the servers at work with just 2 discs and it simply mirrors the contents of the discs.

I was building and configuring a new Domain Controller the other day and I'm sure I chose RAID 0+1, but it appears I must have been mistaken. Would it simply not have accepted the configuration if it wasn't possible? It was showing the discs as mirrored and was reading and writing to both discs concurrently, so whatever I did, it worked lol.

RAID 1 is a mirror, RAID 0 is a stripe. RAID 0+1 is a mirrored striped pair, hence 4 drives.

In that case I must have chosen the right option (RAID 1) because everything was working as it should be. The server has now made it into our datacentre and is doing things the way it should be :)
