Should I get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102163
...its only $86...the thing is I already have a P5W DH Deluxe with 5.1 built in.
But my stero is 7.1 channel.
How much will this help?

I still don't understand why Sound Cards are really that important. I would only get them if I wanted to be like pro at a LAN or something like that.
I mean, can you hear dudes from across a map with those? That's alot of money for a Sound card

I have a 7.1 Channel Onkyo system and it makes the house shake when I'm listening to music...imagine that when playing a game...
Also, is the fatality edition better?...or is it just paying for his name?

We probably are paying for his name . The fatality edition is supposed to be better for gaming . Alls i know is that like whubbard , the house booms while playing online games , and for just playic music , its excellent too.

Moved to the correct forum.

Might want to recheck the onboard audio specs on that mobo. I think it says 8 channel.;)

Are you aware the Digital Out is only 2.1? If you want 7.1 connected to your stereo you will need to go analog. Makes no sense they could not make a 7.1 optical out.

Uh-Oh...I just recieved it today...but haven't opened it yet. Do you know a card that will be able to use all 7 speakers and my subwoofer on my stereo!!!
Also...Is optical a good way to connect? My stereo has it and so does this card!

You can still use the card. If your receiver can handle 7.1 analog ins then it will work, but I know on mine I can only have 5.1 analog ins. I use this card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829118109) and use the optical out to my receiver (it's only 5.1, but that's plenty) and it's great. However, make sure your receiver can decode a Dolby Digital signal.

Look into the Bluegears B-Inspirer or an Auzentech X-Plosion. The new Cmedia chipset on the Bluegears card is supposed to give X-Fi a run for its money...while providing TRUE Dolby Digital and Dolby DTS encoding on the fly. Those are the cards you want to hook to a surround receiver if you want to use the SPDIF.

That's what the card I linked does. It has Dolby Digital Live (DDL) so it can encode games into 5.1 in real-time. It's also cheaper than the cards Tin linked.

Other than his endorsement, the Fatality line has additional ram on the card. I think the standard and platinum has 2MB and the Fatality has 64MB.. (I may be off on the exact amounts..) So far however, I don't think there are actually any apps that can take advantage of the ram on the sound cards...
